Immunization Records Records<p>​</p><p><strong>A MESSAGE FROM THE SIMCOE MUSKOKA DISTRICT HEALTH UNIT…</strong></p><p>Parents should make sure the health unit has up-to-date immunization records for their kids, or they may face suspension from school. </p><p>The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) is in the midst of reviewing immunization records for <strong>Grade 2 and Grade 8 students</strong>, and failing to stay up-to-date can cause some inconveniences. </p><p>The <strong>Immunization of School Pupils Act</strong> requires every student to have up-to-date immunization records — or a legal exemption — or face up to a 20-day suspension.</p><p>"Immunization is very, very important, not only for the health of your family and your children, but for the health of the community," said Mary Ann Holmes, SMDHU manager of the vaccines and preventable diseases program.</p><p>Often, students have been immunized, but that information hasn't reached the health unit. </p><p><strong>Under the Immunization of School Pupils Act, students must have proof of immunization against diphtheria, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, meningococcal disease, whooping cough, and — for children born in 2010 or later — chickenpox.</strong></p><p>For more information visit <a href=""></a>​</p>
